On Friday 24 June 2011, 10 volunteers from BDB teamed up with Knight Frank to join 4,000 volunteers across the country to participate in the Business in the Community National Give and Gain Day. Our task was to clean and organise two wildlife gardens at Christ Church School in Streatham.
We had a very busy task ahead of us, so we met at 9.30am, collected our tools and equipment and started work straight away. We split into three groups with one group concentrating on clearing the pond area, another group was tasked with building a path around the wildlife area and the third group were painting benches and planting scrubs in the school’s ‘Spiritual Garden’.
We worked through the glorious morning sunshine, weeding, clearing and digging away in both wildlife areas, while in the corner of the field our fellow volunteers from Knight Frank painted and varnished the school’s outdoor benches. It was hard work but the team pulled together to produce an outstanding result.
Everyone had a great and enjoyable day and it was nice to feel a true sense of achievement when the job was complete!
